In a way only us Brits can, at the first glimpse of sunshine at the start of April, we warmed up the barbecues and started to bare as much skin as we dared. Of course, it is true that we Brits love a bit of al fresco dining, however, for those of us who have a food intolerance, this is not as easy as it should be. Therefore, at TMI Testing, we are determined to give you advice and information about food intolerances and help you learn how you can alleviate your symptoms. Don’t worry, you can still enjoy the sunshine and the food, as we share our top tips for enjoying a summer BBQ without worrying about your symptoms.
Identify your food intolerances
The first step of managing your food intolerances is to identify exactly what your intolerances are, and you can do this with a food intolerance test. At TMI Testing, all we need is a sample of your hair to test against food and non-food items. and from here, we will send you a fully comprehensive and detailed report of your intolerance results, highlighting which items you are intolerant to. Once you have received your results, we then suggest an elimination diet to help you cut these foods out of your diet. An elimination diet should help you relax your symptoms, and with us holding a high customer satisfaction rate, most of our customers begin seeing a difference in a matter of days!
Understand alternatives
So, once you are aware of what foods you have an intolerance to, you will know exactly which foods you need to avoid. Unfortunately, this can sometimes mean you miss out on foods you really enjoy, which is never a good thing for anybody, especially in the summer! However, you don’t have to miss out on all your good foods completely! There are so many alternatives to your favourite foods in supermarkets and local stores nowadays, you can still enjoy bread even if you’re gluten-free, and you can still enjoy chocolate if you’re dairy-free, so relax! If you are really stuck, there is always a chance that you can take your own food which you KNOW you can eat. Here are some tasty barbecue foods you can enjoy with an intolerance-free twist!
Traditional BBQ food
If you’re planning on enjoying traditional British foods like burgers, steaks, and wraps then there a few things you’ll need to watch out for. These include whether or not there are any herbs and spices within the meat, and also taking a deeper look at what ingredients are included in these foods. Most shop-bought burgers will contain egg as a binding ingredient, and may also contain chilli and garlic to taste. Check the labels on the products you’re buying, and where possible, make your own burgers from home to avoid being exposed to anything you’re intolerant to.
Whichever way you’re enjoying your summer, it’s always better to be prepared. A food intolerance test will help you understand your food intolerances and sensitivities more, meaning you don’t have to miss out on any special occasions.
